Meteocons

Meteocons is a premium-quality collection of 236 animated weather icons created by Bas Milius, a full-stack developer from Groenlo, The Netherlands. Also known as Weather Icons on GitHub, the project has earned over 1,300 stars and 160 forks, and the icons are widely used in weather applications, dashboards, and mapping tools worldwide. Every icon is hand-crafted in Adobe Illustrator and comes in two distinct styles: Fill (solid, colorful illustrations with gradients and depth) and Line (clean outlined versions). Each style includes both animated and static SVG variants. The animated SVGs use embedded CSS keyframe animations and SVG transforms to bring weather phenomena to life - clouds drift, rain falls, lightning flashes, and the sun radiates. Static SVGs are also provided for contexts where animation is not desired or supported. Beyond SVG, the collection offers an impressive range of formats. Lottie animations (JSON) are available for every style, created using the LottieFiles plugin for Adobe After Effects - these are the recommended format for mobile and desktop applications where animated SVGs may not be supported. Static PNG files come pre-optimized in multiple sizes. The monochrome style includes icon font files (TTF, WOFF, WOFF2) for desktop and web use, though these are not animated. Transparent video files and the After Effects source file are also available for video production work. The icons are organized into 11 thematic categories covering a comprehensive range of meteorological and related concepts: Weather (the core set with conditions like clear, cloudy, rain, snow, thunderstorms, fog, hail, sleet, drizzle, and overcast variations for day and night), Astronomical (celestial events and phenomena), Moon Phases (full lunar cycle), Thermometer (temperature indicators), Miscellaneous (supplementary weather-related icons), Particles (dust, smoke, and atmospheric particles), Pollen (allergy-related indicators), Beaufort Wind Scale (wind force levels 0-12), UV Index (ultraviolet exposure levels), Time (clock-related icons), and Alarm (alert indicators). On Iconify, the full set including all style variants totals 447 icons. The collection is served via CDN at bmcdn.nl and is also available as an npm package (@bybas/weather-icons). The GitHub repository includes the original Adobe Illustrator design files (.ai), allowing designers to customize existing icons or create new ones that match the established style. Bas Milius has been coding since 2008 and won two gold medals for programming in 2013.
